This course is designed to enable the successful candidate to train and assess Manual Handling courses .All candidates are required to be in good physical condition and willing to undertake the course with full commitment. Any learner who has a condition which could be aggravated and/or made worse during the course of Moving and Handling activities are not permitted to attend. A declaration is required at the beginning of the course. All learners are expected to dress appropriately. Suitable for: Health care workers,Nurses,Social workers,Care Mangers,Trainers and anyone wishing to train Manual Handling in the workplace

About this course
Pre-requisites Although there are no formal entry requirements to attend this course, it is expected that each learner will be experienced within the Health and Social Care sector and have hands on experience with Moving and Handling including equipment such as hoists. . It is preferable that candidates can provide evidence of the following: •A current, in date Manual Handling Certificate •Training qualification and/or experience •Background in Manual Handling within the workplace.

The course will be run over two days and will include the

· 1992 Manual Handling regulations
Employers responsibilities within the law
· Employees responsibilities within the law
. Anatomy of the Spine
· Common causes of back pain including Osteoporosis
· How to care for the back
· Risk Assessing Moving and Handling activities
· Management Responsibilities
. Unsafe moves
Practical session of using moving and handling equipment. This can include
all equipment within the workplace, including:
1. Mobile hydraulic hoists
2. Mobile electric hoists
3. Overhead (Sky) hoists
4. All types of slings
5. Standing hoist
6. Turntables
7. Banana boards
8. Handling belt
9. Slide sheets
Teaching methods will be adapted throughout this course to meet the needs of the individuals’ organization. This course includes both Moving and Handling people and non people.The programme will involve a significant amount of hands-on activity with additional work outside the sessions to develop the content and materials for assessment on the final day. The programme is quite demanding because it results in the acquisition of new skills and techniques over a short period
Candidates are assessed on their delivery of one practical and one theory session each last approx 20-30 minutes each session, which they are required to deliver to other members of the group on the final day.
