Traineeships are designed as a stepping stone into employment  - either as a progression route to an Apprenticeship programme, or as an opportunity to gain work experience and a qualification to enhance your CV and improve your chances at interview for full-time employment. This traineeship focuses on the food and drink sector of the marketplace.

Course programme

The course comprises a series of modules taken weekly, and typically lasts eight weeks. One day per week will be spent in College; the remainder will be in the workplace. Study will be through a combination of workshops, online learning and classroom-based topics. The modules include: Reflections on work placement experience This module covers target setting and reflection on progression against goals specified within employment. There will be the chance to gain presentation skills, to improve personal confidence and to work in peer groups to discuss common themes within work placements. Employability skills (workplace knowledge 16 – 18 year olds) Facilitated workshops, including interactive on-line teaching in the form of work packs, are used to cover subjects linked to research, communication, employer rights and responsibilities, industry research, job applications and CV writing and money management. There will be the opportunity to complete two group sessions in Forest School and the Outdoor Activity Centre looking at team working and problem solving skills. Exploring and responding to workplace situations and challenges This module is tutor-led and covers a wide range of topics that could be encountered in the work place. The topics covered include Health and Safety, Customer Complaints, Time Management, Lean Working, Equality and Diversity and Responding to Conflict Situations. This module will include group work and discussions. Tutorial and Food Industry Skills This module will cover careers guidance and job searching and looks to improve planning and organisational skills. Food specific topics will be covered in these sessions. Functional Skills (Mathematics and English) If you have not yet achieved the required standard in English and maths, you will continue study in these subjects to improve base knowledge. Assessments in functional skills are available through the College.
