Aim This 2 year course and is ideal if you are interested in a career in an exciting, ever changing industry. This course provides a thorough grounding in the skills and knowledge needed to work in the travel and tourism industry or progress to Higher Education. You will gain first hand experience in our independent ABTA travel agency -Stamford Travel and also Thomascook.com, spending a week in their call centre during your second year. This is a great opportunity to use the skills you have learnt in the classroom and impress potential employers on your CV. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of industry visits and listen to guest lecturers. Previous visits include cruise ships, Eurodisney and various UK visitor attractions.

Content
In the first year you will cover:
· Investigate the travel and tourism industry
· The business of travel and tourism
· UK as a destination
· Customer service in travel and tourism
· Investigating the cruise sector
· Retail and business travel operations.

During the second year of the course you will study:
· Roles and responsibilities of a holiday rep
· Hospitality operations in travel and tourism
· Longhaul destinations
· Preparing for employment
· Marketing travel and tourism products and services.

Over the two years you will also study the following industry recognised qualifications:
1. NCFE Level 2 Certificate for Airline Cabin Crew
You will study in our impressive mock aircraft cabin, -Stamford Airways , which will provide you with the opportunity to complete practical assessments in a realistic working environment.
This qualification is endorsed by BMI and Thomas Cook Airlines. BMI and Thomas Cook guarantee an interview for those students who successfully complete the qualification and meet their minimum entry requirements.
You will also be required to participate in an assessment day at Thomsonfly Training Centre at East Midlands Airport. Approx cost £50 which you will be required to fund yourself.

2. The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Event Planning
This qualification is ideal for a career within the events management field. You will have the opportunity to plan, implement and evaluate a live event within the Travel or Hospitality sector.
Content includes:
· Investigate types of events
· Event planning and resources
· Health, safety and security for events
· Event operations
· Event evaluation.

Progression/career opportunities
For those who successfully complete this course you could progress to the Foundation Degree in Travel and Tourism Management at New College Stamford. If you want to get a job straight away you could start your career working in a travel agency, call centre, overseas in resort, hotels or visitor attractions.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
