Course programme

The travel, tourism and hospitality industry is today the largest and most pervasive sector within the global economy. The need to provide quality services in a business-orientated manner requires management leadership in all the main functional business areas (finance, marketing, human resource management, and operations) as well as strategic leadership. ABE’s Travel, Tourism and Hospitality qualifications provide a pathway through which students can develop a combination of key business skills and industry knowledge in preparation for the varied and exciting careers which the industry offers.

The ABE program contains three levels:
• Certificate
• Diploma (Parts 1 and 2)
• Advanced Diploma

ABE qualifications may be compared to a ladder - with a purposeful effort, the holder of a Certificate can climb to the next rung and get a Diploma; the Diploma holder can then complete the Advanced Diploma.

On passing the Certificate students may:
• Proceed to the Diploma
• Students may also proceed to the Diploma if they have one remaining Certificate subject to complete (i.e. students may proceed to the Diploma on successful completion of three out of the four Certificate subjects). However, the Certificate level must be completed by passing all four subjects before any Diploma awards are given.

On passing the Diploma (Parts 1 and 2) students may:
• Proceed to the Advanced Diploma
• Students may also proceed to the Advanced Diploma if they have two remaining Diploma subjects to complete (i.e. students may proceed to the Advanced Diploma on successful completion of seven out of the nine Diploma subjects). However, the Diploma level must be completed by passing all nine subjects before any Advanced Diploma awards are given.
• Apply to the second year of certain Bachelor's degree courses at universities in the UK and overseas, or apply to take other qualifications at certain professional institutes. A full list of educational institutions accepting ABE graduates can be found in the ABE Guide to Universities and Professional Institutes.

On passing the Advanced Diploma students may:
• Consider their studies completed and use their ABE qualifications to further their careers in industry, commerce or public administration. ABE qualifications are welcomed by employers worldwide. ABE graduates testify to a marked improvement in their self-confidence and motivation and to faster progress and promotion in their careers.
• Apply to the final year of certain Bachelor's degree courses at universities in the UK and overseas, or apply to take other qualifications at certain professional institutes. A full list of educational institutions accepting ABE graduates can be found in the ABE Guide to Universities and Professional Institutes.

Take a second ABE qualification as ABE offers three streams:
• Business Administration (BA)
• Business Information Systems (BIS)
• Travel, Tourism and Hospitality (TTH)

* Note that if you have already completed the Business Administration programme and wish to take the Business Information Systems and/or Travel, Tourism and Hospitality programme, you do not need to retake the Business Administration common subjects.
