What will I study? Practical skills: Bricklaying, Setting out, Storing Resources.... etc Job Knowledge and Trade Techniques How to read, interpret and work from Construction Drawings Calculate trade materials and costings Health and Safety - Mandatory for NVQ or ICA / Diploma level 2 [tba] Additionally (if required by programme) Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number
What else will I do? Basic First Aid awareness Health & Safety Abrasive Wheels awareness training Employment rights and responsibilities
How will I be assessed? Course work is assessed using a combination of practical, theory and work-based portfolios. Written assignments are completed for each of the 6 units. Practical simulated brick / block models are built in the workshop to specific criteria and industrial tolerances. Site based evidence is produced following guidance and directives from tutors / assessors.
What will I achieve? Depending upon your level of skill and work experience your tutor will advise you on the most suitable programme. Course of study includes: Intermediate Construction Award / Diploma level 2 [tba] NVQ Level 2 Trowel Occupations
What can I do afterwards? Successful candidates can progress onto the Level 3 programme. Candidates can access a CSCS card on completion NVQ level 2; this gives you access to all building sites.
Materials required: Candidates are encouraged to purchase their own set of tools, however there are basic tools available for training and assessment purposes. Steel toe-capped boots are required at all times whilst working in a work-shop environment.
Additional information about this course: Candidates are reminded that all construction trades have a large physical element and involve work in all weathers.
