It is suitable for those who already work in this area as well as people who are actively seeking employment and training in this specialist trade.

Entry Requirements
You will need 2 GCSE’s Grade D or above in English and maths. You will also need to have employment within the industry.

Course Duration
2 years.

Skills and Benefits
When you complete your Apprenticeship, you will gain three qualifications: Level 2 Certificate in Bricklaying Functional Skills qualifications at Level 1 or Level 2 in the numeracy or literacy (English and maths). Exemptions may be allowed if you have studied these at an appropriate level.

Mandatory Units
Units include: Erecting Masonry Structures in the Workplace. Setting Out Masonry Structures in the Workplace. Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace. Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace. Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace. Carry out safe working practices in construction. Information, quantities and communicating with others. Building methods and construction technology. Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures. Thin joint masonry and masonry cladding. Build solid walling, isolated and attached piers. Build cavity walling forming masonry structures.

Optional Units
These will be agreed with both your Assessor and Employer.

Course Assessment
For the qualification in Brickwork, your job knowledge and skills will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence. The Technical Certificate in Brickwork is assessed by assignments and knowledge-based tests. Your Functional Skills are assessed by examination and portfolio.

Progression
If you hold a Level 2 technical certificate, wish to complete a Level 3 Diploma, and have 10 year’s experience in practice in the craft, craft testing can be applied to allow progression to Level 3. From an Apprenticeship you can progress to Advanced Apprenticeship. After passing the Advanced Apprenticeship you can progress on to a Higher National Certificate HNC).
