Course programme

Course review:

Sessions will be entirely practically–based, focusing on training the brain to remember and ALL the fingers to use the correct keying without constantly looking at the keyboard.

Delegates will also learn about good posture at the keyboard, and an effective approach to fast learning which can be applied to other disciplines.

The relevance of touch typing to further keyboard expertise (eg software shortcuts) will be explained.

What are the benefits of the course:

Improved efficiency/productivity
(faster production, quicker turnaround of workload, less time proof- reading/correcting, etc)

The reductions of health impacts resulting from poor keyboard use
(better posture, better wrist/forearm use, thus reduced risk of RSI and WRULD)

The workshop uses Accelerated Learning techniques which...

engage the whole brain
reinforce fast learning and enduring memory
help apply a regular disciplined practice regime in the days and weeks following the course
The course takes place on a single day during which learners...
memorise the WHOLE KEYBOARD(*) thoroughly
learn & practise correct finger positioning and movement
apply their growing skill to REAL words
(*) For the purposes of this basic training, the keys/fingering taught will be as follows.
All the alphabet keys: A - Z
Important punctuation: , . : ; ? /
Essential 'functional' keys: Enter, Backspace, Shift, Tab, Esc
The principles taught can be applied by participants themselves to any extra keys they need to learn beyond this core set - e.g. brackets

Participants will need to undertake to practise with particular determination in the hours and days following the course (the first week is crucial in adopting the new skill).

However, this regime is designed so it does not put a huge extra burden on participants' daily workload because...

a) much of the most essential practice can even be done when nowhere near a keyboard!!

b) practical exercises should be performed 'little and often' - in bursts of 30 seconds to 2 minutes, many times a day - rather than in 'harder- to-fit-in' chunks of 20 or 30 minutes or more!

The Expected Results -

No touch typing programme can promise specific accuracy levels, or ‘words per minute’ (wpm) speeds, for everyone who follows the course

Please note -

People differ in their dexterity, physical control, sharpness of mental reactions, mental processing (of spelling for instance) etc - not to mention the degree to which they apply themselves to the disciplines of practice, and their confidence in their own abilities. However, feedback from previous attendees on this programme suggests the following broad expectations:

Typical improvements:

At 98% accuracy, from 14 to 44 wpm (214% faster) in 2 weeks

At 97-100% accuracy, from 14 to 31 wpm (121% faster) in one practice session!
