Course Summary:
This course provides a broad range of challenging activities and experiences. You will undertake a series of fascinating assignments, real-life projects and visits to museums and galleries, all aimed at helping you to develop your skills and understanding in art and design practice.
Entry requirements
You need one of the following:
Introductory Award in Art and Design or other art-related subject
A GCSE in an art-related subject at grade D or above.
You should also have a standard of English and maths equivalent to Functional Skills Level 1.
If you are a mature learner, we may be able to take your previous experience in art and design into consideration. Course programme

Course Content: You will study: 2D and 3D Communication Contextual Preferences in Art and Design Explore and Develop Art and Design Ideas Produce an Art and Design Outcome You will also participate in a site-specific, industry-based project in the community. Alongside your main programme, you will study Functional Skills or GCSE English and/or Maths - as required for future progression to Level 3 or into employment. How will I be assessed? Assessment of practical and written work occurs regularly throughout the course. Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths will be assessed through a controlled final exam. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You will be required to purchase a basic art and design toolkit costing approximately £25 based on a list provided at enrolment (concessions available subject to status). You will also need a journal or notebook at all times throughout the course. What can I do after this course? Further Study On successful completion of the programme to Pass standard – as well as GCSE English to grade C – you can progress to an advanced course such as the Advanced Extended Diploma in Art and Design, via application and portfolio interview. Careers This course also prepares you for a junior employment position in the art-based industries, with the potential for promotion with the help of further training and qualifications.
