The course is as academic as it is practical, where you will gain real life work experience in a variety of different scenarios. These include but are not limited to: Organising, promoting and marketing live music events, tour management, recording a band/artist E.P, band management and developing and implementing business. The course will allow you to decide which area of the industry you would like to work in.

About this course

The course is assessed through a variety of means, which are tailored to individual learning aims. Many assignments will allow students to decide how they would prefer to be assessed. Academic methods include but are not limited to, presentations, essays, reports, verbal vivas and video diaries. The course is also extremely practical, so students will be assessed in relation to their practical real-life skills in planning, organisation, promotion, marketing, production etc.

The course can either lead to employment within the music industry, to university, or in many cases both. Students will be encouraged to start working in the industry as soon as they can. Personal targets, assignments and support are tailored to each individual’s career aspirations.

There are also a vast amount of work experience opportunities available, including backstage production days – in the past our students have worked with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kings of Leon and at the Download/Reading/Wireless festivals. Opportunities with E.M.I and Rocksound Magazine are also available to the strongest students.


The variety of skills acquired on the course will help to make students employable in a vast range of fields within the music industry, as well as providing business and interpersonal skills that are transferable to any other industry. The skills acquired include but are not limited to: Organisation, negotiation, business liaison, budgeting, time management, delegation, people skills, marketing promotion, management, logistics and planning.
At the end of the year students will have a complete CV showing their skills, experience and references. Projects on the course include: Tour management, recording, releasing and marketing an E.P, event organisation, working as an agent, band/artist management. Students will also be able to apply for positions within the College’s record label and events company. Production skills, such as studio recording and live engineering are also taught.
