AUTISM AWARENESS - LEVEL 2 COURSE

Unit 2 - Legislation and Autism

The following topics are covered; The Equality Act (2010), Making reasonable adjustments in employment, Making reasonable adjustments in education, The Autism Act outcome 1: The Autism Strategy, The Autism Act Outcome 2: The statutory guidance.

Unit 3 - Triad of Impairments

The following topics are covered; Problems with social interaction, Problems with social communication and language.

Unit 4 - Explaining Autistic behaviours

The following topics are covered; Challenging behaviour: biting other people, Obsessions, Repetition, Routine.

Unit 5 - Causes of Autism

The following topics are covered; Autism or autistic traits? Genetics, Twin and other genetic studies, Environmental factors.

Unit 6 - Diagnosing Autism

The following topics are covered; Factors contributing to increased awareness and diagnosis, Models of disability, Pros and cons of diagnosis, Components for multi-agency assessment.

Unit 7 - Approaches to Autism

The following topics are covered; Behavioural approaches, Dietary approaches, Medical interventions, Intensive Interaction, Alternative communication systems.

Unit 8 - Practical Suggestions when Working with Autistic Individuals

The following topics are covered; Assisting with anxiety, Support with organising, Technology, Planning and adapting to change. Life changes.

Unit 9 - Explaining the Myths

This unit explains the reasoning behind myths regarding Autism.
