MCM - Master of Science in Computational Mechanics

Soumya Swayamjyoti

01/09/2012
What I would highlight: I've been awarded the SNF grant by the Swiss National Science Foundation to pursue his Doctoral Studies at ETH Zurich, often rated as the best technological university in continental Europe (with 21 Nobel Prize winners in it’s alumni, Albert Einstein being the most prominent of them). I'be worked with several respectable researchers who are employed with ETH Zurich, Paul Scherrer Institut, Stanford University and University of Stuttgart during Doctoral and Master’s research. Research interests are Atomistic and Ab-Initio Simulation and Modeling of Materials.

DMKM - Data Mining & Knowledge Management

Alexey Grigorev

01/09/2012
What I would highlight: As a graduate I applied to the Erasmus Mundus Master's Program in Data Mining and Knowledge Management (DMKM) for the fundamental study of Data Mining and related aspects such as Data Analysis, Machine Learning and Statistical Modeling. Not only it was the curriculum attractive for me, but the general idea of the Erasmus Mundus programme of cultural exchange trough mobility and academic cooperation is also appealing. Upon finishing the program I plan to pursue PhD and combine professional and teaching activities. The qualification obtained through the studies will allow me to easily enroll in any doctoral program, and I am specifically interested in researches conducted by Université Libre de Bruxelles and Poznán University of Technology. Teaching is also important for me, because besides building my career I am enthusiastic about sharing my experience and knowledge with others.

SAMHC - Advanced Masters in Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions

Anna Serafini

01/09/2012
What I would highlight: When I graduated (one year ago), I felt I still had a lot of things to learn and see, and that if I could find a way to go abroad and continue my studies, it was the right moment to do it. The chance given to me by this master is priceless: I'm living in an incredible city, Barcelona, learning so many new things from very professional teachers and from my classmates coming from all around the world. The topic of the master has always attracted me and finally I feel I am building for myself a solid technical base that I was still lacking as an architect. At the same time, the encounter with people from other countries that have so different ways of life and ideas is opening up my mind and allowing me to see things in a different and new way.

SELECT - Environomical Pathways for Sustainable Energy Systems

Dianne Plummer

01/09/2011
What I would highlight: I am an islander from Jamaica. I am quite interested in sustainability, not only on an environmental point of view but also in terms of the business aspects such economic, social and environmental impacts involved in establishing companies. Aside from this I enjoy the dynamic experience of meeting different people and travelling which SELECT has definitely given me the opportunity to do. For the most part my expectations were met; however, there were some courses which were a bit basic and quite general. Additionally, I would have preferred if there were more courses that we could have done with other students who were studying similar courses instead of having a few of the tailored courses at KTH.

MERIT - Master of Science in Research on Information and Communication Technologies

Diego Masone

01/09/2010
What I would highlight: I wanted to develop my interests in the research field, and that is something one can only do when studying abroad with a scholarship. I could visit some cities of Italy and see a lot of beautiful places. I was also able to visit other countries of the European Union, like England, France, Spain and Belgium. These trips really opened my mind and made me think a lot.

AFEPA - European Master in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis

Andrea

01/09/2010
What I would highlight: My name is Andrea and I was an AFEPA student from 2010-2012 so I´m the first generation graduate. I was born in Slovakia. After Bachelor studies at the Slovak University of Agriculture (Nitra, Slovakia), I decided to apply for AFEPA. My destinations were Uppsala and Budapest. ¿What's the best? Firstly, the friendship and cultural sharing. I met some great people during those two years and they made my life special. In fact, they also changed me. Everything passed so quickly and now (six months after everything is over) my mind is pulsing with a strange feeling of nostalgia. Secondly, the professional background. I found out in which direction I want to lead my life and what I want to do. I got a real passion for rural development issues, specially related to the Central European region from where I come from and where I was born. Thirdly, the independence and personal development. I’ve learnt to COOK! I’ve learnt to manage my monthly budget and I’ve learnt to take care of myself hundreds/thousands kilometers away from home.

EUROAQUAE - Euro Hydroinformatics and Water Management

Keiko Yamagata

01/09/2009
What I would highlight: I became aware of this master by one of my teachers in Japan. I did not know the Erasmus Mundus program, and I wanted above all a master that matches the hydraulic studies I wanted to do. This program was very attractive and allowed me to take courses in different countries participating in the master. It is true that in Japan few students are looking to go to Europe, the United States is more popular. But the prospect of studying in various European institutions really interested me. I do not have to choose between this and another, it suited me perfectly. The procedures were very simple: a form to fill out and then wait for a response confirming my selection. I feel I have built a program of excellence. The program is consistent from one country to another. This is sometimes a little difficult is to adapt to the cultural differences of each country. The ways of teaching are not necessarily the same, the relationship between teachers and students either. But that is the point of this program.

AMASE - Joint European Master Programme on Advanced Materials Science and Engineering

José Alejandro Delgado Rangel

01/09/2009
What I would highlight: When I have been accepted to start the AMASE-master in Barcelona, I thought in the opportunity to travel in Europe, to meet people of different cultures and to learn other languages. But, even if it is happened, even if my entire Erasmus Mundus story is culturally rich, I have never thought in the friendship that I would enjoy and that is my best milestone from AMASE. This experience has encouraged me to always search a synergy with others, not only professionally but personally also. Today, I am living in Nancy, France; doing my PhD in solid-mechanics at the University of Strasbourg and; working on a project with the Public Research Centre Henri Tudor in Luxembourg. In this way, I keep the European way-of-life developed during the AMASE experience, working on materials science. In my professional experience the scientific skills learnt during the AMASE-master are kindly important on my actual work. Finally, the values developed in my Erasmus-Mundus activity have shown to me the importance of partnership, perseverance and passion for science. These values with a bit of discipline are, for me, the main needs to do a successful high-quality

EMDC - European Master in Distributed Computing

Arna Óskarsdóttir

01/09/2009
What I would highlight: Throughout my studies I was most drawn to the mathematical and the programming courses and therefore I was certain that this was the right programme for me. I was also drawn to the excellent reputation of the schools I am now studying within, TU Delft and KTH, as well as the international mix of students they both have. I have now finished my first year at TU Delft and will continue my second year at KTH. After a hard working and demanding year at the Applied Mathematical department at TU Delft I have gained a tremendous knowledge in both theoretical and applied mathematics. I have also had the opportunity to get to know students from a broad range of countries like, Canada, Columbia and Indonesia not to mention all the fantastic Dutch students and teachers of the school. Delft is a lovely town which I fell in love with and will for sure visit again in the coming years. Now my journey continues to Stockholm where I will start by taking an intensive course in Swedish to be able to adapt quicker to the culture before starting the second year of the COSSE program which I am really looking forward too .I truly believe that the COSSE programme is the ri

CoMEM - Erasmus Mundus MSC Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management

Marli Geldenhuys

01/09/2009
What I would highlight: Studying the CoMEM programme has opened many doors for me. Internationally I was able to present my MSc thesis work at two conferences in 2012 (the year after I graduated); at PIANC-COPEDEC in Chennai, India and at ICCE in Santander, Spain. Locally I also feel much better equipped for my job at an engineering consultancy. The rigorous theoretical focus of TU Delft in the field of coastal engineering has given me a larger appreciation of research and also highlighted the importance of continuous learning especially when working in consulting. I can highly recommend the Erasmus Mundus programmes to any prospective students. It is likely to broaden your perspective of the world, show you much of Europe and challenge you academically.
