Entry Requirements
None, although if you are a complete
beginner it is advisable to choose a small project to start with.
Description
Would
you like to renovate that old and dilapidated chair into a beautiful chair?
·
Step by step instruction on your particular item of furniture.
· Advice
on the amount of material you use, making allowances for pattern etc. the
finishing, trimming and accessories used and cost involved.
· Removing
all the old covers etc. right down to the basic frame (should this be
required).
· Examine frame; repairs to frame; treat for woodworm,
perhaps touch up the polish area.
· Start to rebuild it back to its
original shape using the same types of materials, only new of course.
·
When completed it will look better than before because you carried out the
work.
After completing this course you should be able to:
Carry
on covering other styles and shapes of your choice.
Course Content
Some
items you can re-upholster starting from the beginners to experts include:

loose seats
· dining chairs with or without springs
· box
ottoman large or small
· cushions foam or feather
· small or
large easy chairs
· button back chairs
· headboards - different
styles and sizes.
Where a course is aimed towards an
assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will enter for
the qualification.

You
may wish to progress to other related crafts: Soft Furnishings, Furniture
Restoration. Please call Information Centre for latest programme.
Materials
· all you need to bring is a pin hammer (a hammer with a
very small head)
· wide bladed screw driver
· mallet: tape
measure: pair of pinchers
· sharp pair of dressmakers scissors (8" or
9")
PLEASE ALSO NOTE that you need to bring an item of furniture
to the first session.
The rest of the tools you can buy from the tutor
at various stages.
All the sundries - tacks, webbing, hessian, twine,
springs, calico, horse hair etc. can also be supplied by the tutor at
reasonable cost.
