In line with the new FISA ( Forestry Industry Safety Accord) guidelines, post the compliance date, 1st October 2013, everyone will need to demonstrate their refresher training record. Employers need to record and plan for this training.
For regular chainsaw users this is every 5 years and for occasional users every 2/3 years.
This one day Lantra Awards registered course will cover all the important points to update you on the latest techniques and well as refreshing your skills

- Preparing a chainsaw for use in a tree
- Securing the work position
- Cutting techniques
- Clearing site and equipment checks
Entry Criteria
This refresher training is for existing NPTC Certificate of Competence in the use of a chainsaw from a rope and harness holders
Equipment Required for "Use of Chainsaw" Courses
PPE
Safety Helmet - Groundwork (HSE Recommended EN 397 with ear protection to EN 352 -3 & mesh visor to EN 1731) (Not exceeding 3 years old)
Safety Helmet - Climbing (HSE Recommended mountaineering style helmet complying with BS EN 12492)
Safety Helmet - Tree Work (HSE Recommended with ear protection & visor as above)
Chainsaw protective Gloves (HSE Recommended to EN 381-7)
Chainsaw Trousers (HSE Recommended to EN 381-5 (Chainsaw chaps are not suitable for College training)
Chainsaw Boots (HSE Recommended to EN 381-3) (Spats are not suitable for College training)

Top handle Chainsaw - Max 15inch guide bar length with sufficient fuel and chain oil
Personal First Aid Kit (containing a large wound dressing)
Whistle
Suitable non snag outdoor clothing including waterproofs, you should be prepared for all weather conditions.
General chainsaw maintenance equipment, including a chain filing kit etc.
Hi visibility vest (short sleeved is acceptable)
Additional Information
The above PPE, equipment etc. must be provided by the candidate attending
Climbing equipment and climbing chainsaws are available for use. If you would like to use your own climbing equipment, it will be at the discretion of the Tutor and must have all the current LOLER certificate
Practical sites used for the training may be up to 1 hour's drive from the main college campus and therefore to access these you must have your own transport (public transport would not be suitable)
