Vehicle Immobilisation
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) issues licences to vehicle immobilisers
who meet their criteria.
To qualify for an SIA licence you will need to satisfy three requirements:
1) Pass an identity check
2) Pass a criminal records check
3) Possess a recognised vehicle immobilisation qualification.
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Award in Vehicle Immobilisation is such a recognised qualification and consists of threeunits:
Unit 2
Including how to comply with the law, signs, lines and enforcement vehicles, vehicle registration marks, health and safety, when to clamp and when to remove vehicles, vehicle tow away, use of photography,
payment process, the appeals procedure, discretionary parking
Unit 2
Conflict Management and Communication for Vehicle Immobilisers
Takes candidates through managing conflict by applying dynamic risk assessment approaches, understanding the importance of self-awareness and acting proactively; how to defuse and resolve conflict and post incident considerations and learning from conflict.
This award is designed for those wishing to start work as a vehicle immobiliser or vehicle tower in the industry; and is awarded to those who pass two examinations covering the basic knowledge and responsibilities of the occupation.
This nationally recognised qualification is the industry standard and will enable a vehicle immobiliser to apply to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for a licence to work as a vehicle immobiliser. It is illegal to work in this country as a vehicle immobiliser on private land without an SIA licence. The fines for working as a vehicle immobiliser without an SIA licence are severe. You can be fined up to £5,000.00 and receive up to six months in prison. This can also apply to the company you are working for.
ASSESSMENT: Two externally set and marked multiple choice examinations
RESULTS: Usually within 10-14 days of completing examinations
CERTIFICATES: Usually 10-14 days after passing examinations
To get a Front Line SIA Vehicle Immobiliser licence you must undergo a criminal record check. If you have any kind of caution or conviction we advise you to check your eligibility to get a licence prior to booking your training.
