Course programme
The Vehicle Inspection Diploma programme is designed for students wishing to enter into the repair side of the motor industry. This knowledge and skills qualification (VRQ) is primarily designed to meet the needs of the young Motor Vehicle Student. The course is aimed at those who do not work within the industry and wish to gain formal qualifications through a full-time programme of study, and is ideally suited for school & college students (and leavers) who wish to join the automotive industry.
The programme will provide the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by potential vehicle technicians. Students successfully completing all units of study will have mastered the basic repair skills needed for work on various vehicle systems and have an understanding of the related technology. Assessment is based on external examinations with internal assessment of practical ability.
Practical skills and knowledge are delivered by demonstration and practical assignments in the workshop. Theoretical knowledge is delivered by classroom tuition, guided assignments, ILT, and personal study. In addition to your main programme, you will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.
Course Content
The Vehicle Inspection Diploma Level 2 provides learners with the opportunity to study both the theory and practical aspects of a range of routine vehicle inspection, fitting and maintenance procedures.
Vehicle Inspection Diploma units may include:
- Routine light vehicle maintenance, including engine systems.
- Inspecting, repairing and replacing light vehicle: standard and high performance tyres.
- Carrying out light vehicle four wheel alignment.
- Inspecting and replacing light vehicle: exhaust components, suspension dampers & springs, vehicle batteries and braking systems & components.
- Learners also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer vehicle needs and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs (grades A*-G), including English and maths, and an interview.
Career
Further study and training to level 2 Service and Repair is recommended. Further study and training in either motor vehicle or motorcycle level 2 or progression onto an Apprenticeship programme is also an option.
