Course programme

What will I learn?

All aspects of veterinary nursing training including animal health, communication skills, medical and surgical nursing skills, health & safety subjects, laboratory, radiography, anaesthesia and emergency nursing skills Experience and competency in a wide range of practical skills is recorded in an electronic portfolio throughout your training

How will I be assessed?

Tests take place throughout the course including three electronic exams, written assignments and written exams as well as practical assessments and exams This is in addition to working on clinical skills in Canterbury College-approved training practice for the three years

What may it lead to?

By completing the course you will have the full VN qualification and be able to apply to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons)

Entry Requirements

The standard entry requirements are 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths, English and Science), or a Level 2 science based Diploma eg in Animal Care (distinction) along with 2 GCSEs at C above and Level 2 Maths and English, or a Level 3 science based Diploma eg in Animal Management (merit) along with GCSE grade C or above or Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English Places are subject to interview and students must be employed in an approved veterinary training practice

Additional Information & Other Costs

Students attend College one day a week for three years and need to be employed for a minimum of 15 in-practice hours each week ie excluding College day Students must be employed in an approved Training Practice, affiliated to Canterbury College as Primary or Secondary Centre Course fees vary according to age and previous qualifications Students must have their own transport for college
