Course description
Who can join?
To gain entry, you should have passed the RCVS Part I veterinary nurse examination, NVQ Level 2 and have completed your level 2 work-based assessment
As with the level 2 qualification, you require to be employed at an approved training practice (35 hrs per week or 20 hrs per week over 2 years).
How do I attend?
There are short blocks of study throughout the academic year at The NHC-Thurso:
Block 1 - 2 weeks in September
Block 2 - 2 weeks in November
Block 3 - 2 weeks in February/March
Block 4 - 2 weeks in May.
The RCVS Veterinary Nursing Exam NVQ Level 3 (Part II) is held in July. This includes both written and practical examinations. Success in this and completion of the level 3 portfolio of work-based assessment leads to qualification as a Veterinary Nurse and allows entry onto the Register of Veterinary Nurses.
What will I study?
The theoretical & practical sessions at The NHC-Thurso utilise the on-site facilities including reception, consulting, kennel, preparatory area, operating theatre, laboratory and radiographic facilities, mock written and practical examinations and portfolio support.
You will concentrate on the different types of medical and surgical nursing, diagnostic aids and imaging, exotic nursing, anaesthesia and pharmacology.
