Who is this course for? The Vocational Life Skills programme is for students with learning difficulties working at entry level who want to develop skills for daily life.
Previous knowledge required: No previous knowledge is required for this course. At interview we will assess your level of ability, your support needs and your reasons for applying to make sure that the course is the most appropriate for your educational needs.
What will I study? You will take part in practical work in small groups. You will need to study Five units to achieve the full qualification; there are eight different modules that you can choose from: Developing Skills for Daily Life; Developing Personal Care and Presentation Skills; Using Community Facilities; Using Your Leisure Time; Practical Project Work; Taking Part in an Enterprise Activity; Developing Creative Skills and Keeping Fit and Healthy. You will also work to improve your communication skills, your number and computer skills.
What else will I do? This course offers you the chance to be a member of your local College; a real opportunity to study in a mainstream environment but on a course that meets your particular needs. You will have the opportunity to take part in College events and educational visits while you develop your skills. We hope that this will help to prepare you for life in the local community.
How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through observation of your work, through set tasks and from evidence in your file.
What will I achieve? Your main qualification will be the City and Guilds 3802 Personal Progression through Work and Life Skills at Entry level 1 or 2. You may also achieve one or more of the following qualifications; the City and Guilds 3340 Food Studies at Entry level 1 or 2; the City and Guilds 3340 Hospitality and Catering at Entry level 3; the City and Guilds Adult Literacy, Numeracy and ICT qualifications at Entry level 1, 2 and 3; and/or NOCN units at entry and pre-entry levels.
What can I do afterwards? You can move on from the Entry level 1 to the Entry level 2 course or to the Entry Level 3 'Vocational Work Skills' course or you can choose to enrol on part time courses at College.
Materials required: You will need to bring pens, paper and a file to put your work in. If the course requires specific materials or ingredients e.g. cookery and art courses, then you will be asked to pay a small charge to cover the cost of these.
Additional information about this course: You can study on this course as a full time learner or choose some of the modules only and study as a part time learner.
