NVQ Level 2 Waste Management Operations

How does this qualification improve my career prospects?

Having a qualified workforce in waste management enables organisations to demonstrate that they are conforming to organisational, contractual and legislative environmental requirements.

What does it involve?

This qualification is assessed in a combination of ways; by portfolio you build up evidence of what you've done at work and through informal observation. Your assessor will support and guide you through the qualification.

There are five common pathways to this award. The pathways identify typical workplace activities that may be encountered within a wide range of occupational areas:

  • Waste Collection
  • Recyclable Waste Collection
  • Waste Treatment Operative
  • Waste Recycling Operative
  • Construction Logistics.

Candidates must achieve six mandatory units plus four optional Units.

MANDATORY UNITS (All 6 to be taken)

  1. Promote and maintain quality of the organisation's work
  2. Contribute to the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment
  3. Develop and Maintain effective working relationships
  4. Comply with emergency procedures
  5. Work in a team
  6. Maintain information systems to support work.

OPTIONAL UNITS - 4 to be Selected Options Include:

  • Control the removal of waste
  • Deal with matters other than waste
  • Control the safety of vehicle management on waste management facilities
  • Control the removal of recyclable waste
  • Contribute to the maintenance of security in the working environment
  • Transport wastes and materials
  • Advise and inform colleagues on facility environmental protection matters.
