Is this course for me?

What will I study?

These are optional subjects:
- Basic manual metal arc welding
- Basic oxy-fuel gas cutting
- Basic platework
- MIG and TIG welding
What are the entry requirements?
You will need to attend an interview at the College and take an initial assessment test, assistance will be provided if required. You should have a good standard of literacy and numeracy. Additional help with maths and English is provided if required.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by tutors assessing your progress continually throughout the course. Assessment is competence-based, that is to say practical. You also have to maintain a portfolio of work that includes written, documented and photographic records. Your tutor will help you put together this portfolio.
What can I do next?
This can lead to a Modern Apprenticeship, a BTEC First Diploma in Engineering or employment opportunities.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances, you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out when you apply.
