Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you want a practical course in welding. Level 1 and Level 2 units available.

What are the entry requirements?
You do not need to have any prior knowledge at Level 1. It is advisable to take the Oxy-acetylene welding unit before Tunsten Arc Gas Shielded Welding.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.

• Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2

You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
• Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.

What qualification will I receive?
You will receive a City & Guilds 3268 Introductory Welding Award.

Where can it lead?
You can continue to study for a level 2 welding course.

What will I study?
You will study Tungsten, Arc, Gas Shielded Welding, TAGS, TIG, Welding Safety, Set-up of equipment, Joint techniques and Inspection procedures.

Students attend this course to gain skills for either industrial or non industrial fields. These include Manufacturing, Maintenance engineering, Construction, Heating and Ventilation, Pipe fitting, Vehicle restoration, Classic car, Welding for artists, Metal sculpture, Art and design, Arts and crafts.

You can select from any of the following processes: Oxy-acetylene welding, Manual Metal Arc Welding, MMA Metal Arc Gas Shielded Welding, MAGS Progress onto Coded Welding. Welding codes available include British Standard Welding Codes, European Welding Codes and American Welding Codes ASME.

You will attend practical welding classes and theory sessions.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by practical tests and an oral examination.
