Wine Appreciation
For the regular wine drinker who would like to try something a little different and have the confidence to be more adventurous. This is a short course to introduce students to a more structured approach to tasting wine, involving tasting 30 different styles of wine and looking at how wine is produced and where it comes from.

What does the course involve?
The course will enable you to begin to develop a disciplined approach to wine tasting, hence improving your appreciation of wine. This is done by practical wine tasting which encourages the development of analytical skills when tasting wine. Each week at least 6 wines will be tasted.

You will be encouraged to take written notes, but information is provided and the Internet used to look for additional information on the topics covered. A number of books are recommended for additional reading - this is optional. You will also be encouraged to taste and buy wines that perhaps you would not have had the confidence or knowledge to try.

There will be a charge of approx £4 per session for wine. Students will also be expected to buy a tasting glass for £2.

What will I study?
First session An Introductin to Wine Tasting.

Middle sessions The major and some minor wine regions of the world are studied, with associated topics such as viticulture, vinification, cost and storage of wine, wine and food, and the use of Oak.

Last session Blind wine tasting - each student can bring a wine of their choice.
