About this course
Whilst a sound standard of secondary education is desirable, applications will be dealt with by interview and individual assessment. Motivation and interest are key requirements. It is assumed, but not mandatory, that applicants will already hold a NVQ at level 2 Applications from mature students are welcome.

What will I study? Practical skills: trade-work, Site procedure, Site management, Risk Assessments, Method statements, Storing Resources.... etc Job Knowledge and Trade Techniques How to read, interpret and work from Construction Drawings Calculate trade materials and costings Health and Safety - Mandatory for NVQ or ACA / Diploma level 3 [tba]
What else will I do? Additionally (if required by programme) Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number [level 2] Basic First Aid awareness Health & Safety Abrasive Wheels awareness training Employment rights and responsibilities
How will I be assessed? Course work is assessed using a combination of practical, theory and work-based portfolios. Written assignments are completed for each of the units. Practical simulated trade models are constructed in the workshop to specific criteria and industrial tolerances. Site based evidence is produced following guidance and directives from tutors / assessors
What will I achieve? Candidate will achieve an NVQ level 3 at their chosen trade; this is the highest trade level qualification and enables successful candidates an opportunity to progress through the ranks to positions of site authority i.e. Foreman, Ganger, Site Agent......
What can I do afterwards? NVQ 3 provides a gateway to pursue higher qualifications in HE; Clerk of Works, Quantity Surveyor, Structural Surveyor, Site manager, Contracrs Manager etc
Materials required: All materails are provided at the college, however candidates are encouraged to bring their own tools and equipment. Candidates should wear "toe-capped" boots at all times whilst in the workshop
Additional information about this course: The Construction Industry is physically demanding and expects participants to work outdoors in all weathers
