This course is for 16-18 year old students who are interested in outdoor practical skills relating to construction ground works. Varied practical skills are learnt such as machinery use and maintenance, maintenance of structures and surfaces and site safety. This is useful introduction for learners who know they want to work in the construction industry.

Course programme
There are no formal entry requirements but an interest in construction groundwork activities is preferable.
Practical training in plant operating skills on an approved CPCS test site. You will study units relating to health and safety, operating plant, transporting materials and maintaining structures and surfaces. You will also complete underpinning knowledge such as machinery maintenance and site safety. Most of the course is practical and will be assessed by practical sessions. You will also do functional skills maths and English. There is also the opportunity to take CSCS and CPCS tests.
You can progress on to the certificate in plant operations course, subject to interview, apprenticeship or gain employment in the construction/land-based sector.
Students are expected to supply or purchase their own PPE and contribute towards CSCS and CPCS test costs.
