Level One It’s not just window cleaners, roof workers and tree surgeons who work at height. Office workers, teachers and librarians may need to reach a book on a high shelf or catering staff may need to reach a high cupboard to store kitchen equipment or access ingredients. Did you know a place is ‘at height’ if a person could be injured falling from it, even if it is at or below ground level? Do your employees know that they must use the equipment supplied properly, following any training and instructions? In October 2011 a local authority pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 for failing to ensure the safety of an employee working at height and with fragile surfaces. The council was fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £5,667 in costs. In recent years falls from height accounted for 46 fatal accidents at work and around 3350 major injuries. They remain the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injury still today. This course concentrates on what you really need to know for the type of work being done, for specific applications and work locations.
