Description
Working Together: Support Childrens Literacy is a free* course which looks at how reading, writing, speaking and listening is taught in primary schools. The course also gives ideas for supporting learning at home and also includes an opportunity to gain a literacy qualification at an adult level.

Course Length
16 weeks

What will I study?
The course will look at:-
Reading strategies and methods
The Primary Framework for Literacy
Reading and writing games and activities
Phonics, story telling and childrens literature
Handwriting and spelling
Vocabulary and terms from Reception to Year 6
Gaining an adult qualification


How will I learn?
There is one three hour session per week, which will include informal discussions, note-taking, reading information, watching dvds / videos and some practical tasks etc There will also be some activities to carry out between sessions.

How will I be assessed?
A college certificate will be awarded to every learner who completes the course. There is also an opportunity to gain a certificate from the Open College Network by submitting a portfolio. The Adult Literacy Qualification will take the form of a multiple choice, one hour paper.

Where could it lead?
Learners who have completed the Working Together courses may consider taking Teaching Assistant, or other childcare, qualifications.
