Young Film Academy was founded in 2004 by directors James Walker and Ed Boase. Young Film Academy is the UK’s leading filmmaking provider for young people aged 8-18 and we are the workshop provider for the UK’s most prestigious arts festivals, including the Guardian Hay Festival and The Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Young Film Academy (YFA) is the UK’s leading provider of educational filmmaking programmes for young people aged 8-18. Young Film Academy was founded in 2004 by directors James Walker and Ed Boase. Together, their films have been shown in over fifty festivals worldwide and broadcast on the BBC, HTV, Canal+ and Rai 1, among others. Awards include Best UK Short (Raindance Film Festival), Cocotte-Minute Grand Prix (Brest International Film Festival) and Best Director (Capalbio International Film Festival). Magma PIctures, their film production company, is currently producing its first feature film, Blooded. YFA is the official workshop provider to over 50 independent and state schools in the UK, as well as the Guardian Hay Festival, the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the London Children’s Film Festival. All YFA tutors are professionals currently working in the film and television industry.
