The purpose of this course is to outline the responsibilities of a Systems Programmer and to discuss the basic principles which underlie OS/390 systems. The course provides a high level view of OS/390 in order that the inexperienced Systems Programmer may subsequently be able to fill in the necessary detailed technical knowledge. The course will discuss the common duties of the Systems Programmer in designing, generating, tuning and maintaining a system.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide an overall picture of the Systems Programming function. The emphasis will be on the reasons for performing certain tasks, although the methods employed will also be outlined. Certain fundamental principles and techniques will be explained during the course, thus providing an excellent basis upon which to found a systematic learning process.
By the end of this course you will have learned
How the OS/390 Operating System is structured in some detail; how it uses the more important resources; and what are the major tasks involved in the systems programmer role of generating and maintaining OS/390.
