2 Day Advanced Plastering

Day 1 includes:

1 Health and Safety

2 Introduction into the work areas

3 The student follows the tutor in applying 2 coat plaster to the ceiling area, the work should match to show that the right pressure on the trowel is being carried out. Failure in this results in the student going back to basics.

4 The student is coached into several procedures where they apply pressure to different places of the trowel until the tutor is satisfied that the student is capable in progressing.

5 Should the student match the tutors strokes the student is coached into finishing the ceiling

6 The student then follows the tutor on the wall areas, following the tutor laying on the top of the wall, the student is coached into following along the lower part of the wall, again the student must show that they have the ability to control the pressure being used to apply the plaster.

7 The student is given the chance to flatten the whole area before following the tutor with a second coat.

8 The student is coached into finishing the whole area.

9 The opposite wall is chosen and the roles reversed, Student to the upper part and the tutor follows on the lower part.

10 The Student flattens and completes the finishing.

11 The window wall is used to coach the student into plastering the head and reveals

The day ends with a £5.00 challenge, A line is drawn 2 inches from the base of the wall and a £5.00 note pinned 6 feet above, The student is given one chance to spread the plaster evenly without any breaks from the line past the £5.00, a result the student keeps the money, a failure the test goes to day 2

Day 2

1 Cleaning of all tools to start the day.

the student uses PVA on all the work areas and carries out the same work as the previous day but on their own, the tutor only steps in should he be needed.

The whole area plastered is marked and points are gained for areas where the tutor has given instruction and they have been carried out, but points lost where the student has shown little attempt to carry out the work to the tutors grade

The pass rate is 90% or more, less than 90% and the student is given the opportunity to return at a later date for one day free of charge.

The day concludes with a final attempt at the £5.00 challenge.
