Course programme

The Academy has undertaken several contracts where 4 students are taken out and introduced to home working areas.

They are introduced to the property owners and shown how to prepare the place of work, using polythene, masking tape and duct tape.

The students are split into pairs, each are given a tape measure, board knife, hammer, cordless drill, 6ft straight edge,6ft spirit level, hand hawk and trowel

In turn, each pair is shown how to measure ,cut and the screw the plasterboards to the ceiling area.

As a group they then prepare the area to be dry lined, by making sure the area is clean, and then the walls are marked out where the plasterboard will be fixed.

Working in pairs they are shown how to cut the plasterboards to the wall, cutting out switch boxes, pipework and exposed wiring, the boards are then tacked into place.

The students are then shown how to mix the dry wall adhesive.

Working in pairs they take in turns to either mix or fix

The tutor spots the wall where the first board is to be fixed, then gives instruction on how to fix the board, using the spirit level and straight edge.

The two pairs are then coached through the process of dry lining the rest of the wall areas.

The day concludes with clearing the area of any off cuts and debris and prepared for finishing.

The second day, again working in pairs, the students carry out fifishing the works with two coat plasterwork.

The day concludes with a clean down before showing the clients the fished work.

A discussion about the course and final photographs end the course.
