You will develop a range of useful skills and aptitudes in the classroom based on a number of learning strategies. These will include group and team work, problem solving, presentations, lectures, critical evaluation and class discussion/debate, a range of questioning, role-play.
Methods and Patterns of Assessment
There is no formal coursework requirement on either the AS or A2. However, we do have internal patterns of assessment that include close monitoring of notes, set written work assignments on a regular basis, periodic tests and general monitoring of progress. We expect students to follow current affairs closely and to report to the class in groups on Politics in the News. Please note that we enter students for the Unit 1 AS exam in January of the first year.
Financial Implications
Students are required to purchase set textbooks for both AS and A2 levels. In addition we recommend that students buy designated journals and attend conferences and a visit to Parliament. The College has a Student Support Fund for those students who have difficulty meeting these costs.
Career Possibilities
Politics at this level can lead to many opportunities and is accepted by all universities. In the past we have noticed that students with ambitions to go into the Legal profession Business, Journalism and the Civil Service have found the course particularly useful. Otherwise there is no specific career path that students follow; anything is open to them.
