About this course
Entry requirements for the Advanced GCE course is that you must have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C or above which must include Mathematics and English.

SINGLE AWARD

DOUBLE AWARD
This is a double award advanced GCE in Health & Social Care. This course is timetabled for ten hours of study a week. Six AS units will be studied in the first year. The qualification achieved at the end of the first year is two AS levels. Six A2 units will be studied in the second year.
These courses are suitable for anyone considering entering caring professions, such as nursing, midwifery, health visiting, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, paramedical services, nursery nursing or primary teaching.

Single Award
Three AS units will be studied in the first year:

Course Content and Method of Assessment
Single Award : Three units are studied in the first year. Two units are assessed by portfolio and the third unit assessed by examination. At the end of the first year, the qualification gained is an AS.
Three units are studied in the s econd year. Two units are assessed via portfolio and one by external examination. The qualification gained at the end of the year is an A Level
Double Award : Six Units are studied in the first year. Four units will be assessed by portfolio and there are two examined units. The qualification achieved at the end of the first year is two AS levels.
Six units will be studied in the second year. Your choice of units will determine whether three or four units are assessed by portfolio and whether two or three units are externally examined. The qualification achieved at the end of the second year is two A Levels
Each assignment is separately graded and relates to a point system, which determines your final grade at the end of the course.
The external examinations are taken in January or June. The Grade received for the exams are included in your final grade. There is an opportunity to re-sit examinations to enhance your final grade
Work Placement
Every Health & Social Care student is given the opportunity to complete a work placement, outside of their College timetable. This is organised in collaboration with the Work Experience Co-ordinator. The Double Award AS course has a mandatory short work placement for "Working in Early Years Care and Education" which is part of the timetable. All other work placements are optional.
After the Course?
The Advanced GCE Level course can lead to other academic courses and is recognised by universities. Students can enter into a range of different degree paths and vocational courses.
Students may opted for employment have entered within the field of health and social care however, the course, being based around working with people, enables students to enter a wide range of employment and training in other fields. Careers advice will be given during the course including guidance on options which are open to students after studying Health and Social Care.
Subject Combination
Any combination will work due to the diverse nature of the course.
