Introduction This is a stimulating, demanding and exciting subject that combines practical work with academic skills.
Practical Work:
Students interested in a particular aspect of the visual world are encouraged to assemble a portfolio based on that theme. Sketchbooks are required for recording and collecting primary and secondary source material, which supports unit coursework. The syllabus revolves around 2D or 3D work and develops personal expression and style.
You will explore painting, sculpture, drawing, printing, photography, mixed media and related lens based media.
Historical and contemporary sources for art are used for research as well as the study of other cultures and contextual studies. Critical analysis and understanding of their use and application underpins all practical coursework.
Costs:
A list of art materials required for the course will be issued during induction. Study visits to museums and art galleries are included in the programme. Additional visits where applicable for specific coursework input, are also required.
Students are expected to access the art studios off timetable to continue working on coursework and private study of at least two to three hours a week.
Course Units AS - Year 1 Unit 1: Students produce a portfolio of evidence covering a wide range of 2D and 3D work, and at least one extended project on a selected theme. Unit 2: Students receive an exam assignment set by AQA and students select a question from an exam paper and produce a volume of preparatory studies. There is a supervised practical exam.
