Who is this course for?
A level English is suitable for anyone who wishes to follow an advanced study of English whether as a move towards higher academic study, employment or simply for pleasure.

What will I learn?
You will study a variety of stimulating texts from a variety of writers. The course consists of 4 modules; two at AS level and two at A2 level.In the first year you will have the opportunity to study poetry and drama for examination and a selection of prose for the coursework element.In the second year you will study period and genre writing for coursework and a selection of poetry and drama for examination.

Assessment
At AS level: LT1 Poetry and Drama (written examination); LT2 Prose Study and Creative Reading (coursework). A2 level: LT2 (coursework); LT4 Poetry and Drama.

On Completion Achievement / Progression
AS and A2 English are core subjects and combine will with many subjects to prepare you for entry into higher education. There are a wide range of careers available to successful English students on completion of higher level study including journalism, teaching, social work and many other careers. This course will help you to think for yourself and become a well-informed and good communicator.

Requirement
You will need the minimum entry requirement of 4 grade C or above at GCSE level, one in English (or its equivilent). For mature students life experience will be taken into account. The A level course is in two parts over two years; AS and A2 level. You are eligible to join the A2 course on successful completion of the AS level. Students wishing to take this subject as part of the full-time provision should complete a college application form on receipt of which we will invite you to the college for an informal interview where you will have the opportunity to talk with the tutors. You will also take a literacy and numeracy
