Course programme
In A level Chemistry you will learn about what atoms are made of, and how they join together to make simple molecules like carbon dioxide and water, and more complicated structures like diamonds, plastics and proteins. You will carry out some chemical reactions for yourselves, and see others demonstrated by the teacher, or in videos, or simulated on computer. There is a wide range of past questions (and answers) available on the college computer network to help you pass your exams.
Chemistry is a popular subject, chosen by about a quarter of our 'A' level students, many of whom go on to read Medicine or other vocational courses such as Pharmacy. Chemistry itself opens the door to careers in many of Europe's most successful industries, and to government agencies whose job is to monitor pollution and protect the environment. Even lawyers can benefit from knowledge of chemistry in order to work in the lucrative field of scientific patents, whilst a number of chemistry graduates also progress into fields such as accountancy.
