A Level English Language
A-level English Language helps you to explore and understand the connection between language, society and the individual. You will learn how conversation works in everyday life, how language has changed over time, how writers construct texts to achieve certain aims and how children learn to speak and write. You will also be able to create your own texts, as well as carry out some original research. English Language combines well with all other A-levels, including Science, Maths and Law. The skills it develops are highly valued by employers and universities.

NB. If you follow this A-level, you are in a good position to choose University degrees in Linguistics, English Language and, at some universities, English Studies. However, if you are more interested in the traditional English Literature degree, you should choose English Literature A-level.

Exam Board / Specification: AQA Specification B
Subject entry requirements: In addition to GCSE English Grade C .GCSE English Literature Grade C (desirable).
