The course provides an excellent foundation for further study in film and media related courses at university. The practical element of the course also provides students with an introduction to the skills and techniques required to work professionally within the film industry.
What will I be doing?
You will study the Hollywood and British film industries and discuss their developments and the issues around production processes, funding and film exhibition. You will also study the relationship between audience and film producers. Textual analysis of films is an important skill developed throughout the course along with the basic production skills. Students will write essays, present seminars on film related topics which will develop research skills. The course will also be supported by educational visits and film screenings.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by a mixture of coursework, practical work and external examinations
What are the Entry Requirements?
Minimum 5 GCSE at A* -C including a grade C English Language or Literature.
Where can I go after completing this course?
After successfully completion of the AS Film Studies course students can progress onto the A level in Film Studies. The course provides opportunity for the development of independent critical thinking and analysis and, therefore, complements many other career choices and combinations of A Level study.
