Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences (58087)

5.0 21/08/2016
What I would highlight: I chose to study Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) at Wakefield College because of the opportunities that are available during and after the course which prepares you for a better future. I have particularly enjoyed learning about sports psychology because I got to find out the important of being mentally prepared when performing and I enjoyed that the teachers threats us like adults and they offered excellent support and advice when you need it. My highlights at Wakefield College are when we visited Italy as part of our course were we did a lot of fun and exciting activities like white water rafting, up-sailing etc. I also volunteered as a Football Activator which was very beneficial for me because I enhanced my communication skills, team working skills and more. On top of that I got the FA level 1 football coaching badge for free and we visited Wembley stadium for training. Over my time a Wakefield college I have made new friends and met people that will help me with my employment in the future. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed being a student at this college and I have got to see myself develop because Wakefield College has been a springboard to push me towards my aspirations.
What could be improved: Nothing bad I can recall.

57886 Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies

Lauren Williams
4.5 12/12/2015
What I would highlight: I started doing beauty therapy in 2015, not knowing anything about it. I have gained a level 2 diploma and I intend on progressing on to doing a level 3 in beauty therapy course. Hopefully in the future with the skills I have learnt from the tutors and staff at this college I will be able to work in a salon to gain experience and eventually work for myself. I am also looking to work on cruise ships and with the qualifications I gain from these courses I am able to do so. On this course we were able to get one to one training in certain areas such as waxing, make up and dermalogica training. I really enjoy this course as we have learnt to do a lot of different treatments. The college staff are very helpful and caring and pushed me to succeed with my course. If you're looking to succeed and work hard I would suggest Wakefield College is the place for you.

What I would highlight: I’ve spent the last 3 years studying Hospitality and Catering and I have to admit it has been fantastic! I chose to study Level 3 Hospitality and Catering at Wakefield College because of the opportunities that they offer and how prepared it gets you for life after your course. The three years that I have spent at Wakefield College have been amazing. I’ve met so many new friends and some of the kindest tutors, this has given me so much confidence in myself, which has had an impact on work outside. Catering at Wakefield College allows students to take part in the college’s restaurant sector where everyone gets experience of working in a busy kitchen and a busy restaurant service.

57897 A Level English Language

Katharine Waller
5.0 06/07/2016
What I would highlight: I am a first year A Level student and am currently studying 4 AS subjects, English Language, English Literature, History and Psychology. All of my courses are amazing. There are skills that are built upon in all of them, such as essay writing and analysis and so they all complement each other, but at the same time they are all different enough that it isn’t repetitive. I find all the subject matter really interesting and engaging, and the tutors are so helpful. If you don’t understand something or you miss a lesson they will help you go through the lesson if there are bits you don’t understand.

Course programme

What you will Study You will be introduced to a variety of experiences involving a range of media, processes and techniques. Workshop style sessions will give practical knowledge and experience through tutor demonstrations and production of samples. You will explore images, artefacts and resources relating to a range of fine art, craft and design, from the past and from recent times. Visits to local galleries will also be encouraged. You will explore drawing using a variety of methods and media on a variety of scales. You will work in one or more areas of Art, such as painting, drawing and mixed media, including collage and assemblage. The course is split into two main components: 1: Personal Investigation This entails students developing skills in all areas as well as appreciating and learning about historical and contemporary artists. Work will be underpinned with research and written analysis as well as a visual work which shows the learning process. Students will then be given the opportunity to develop their own personal style with individual projects. Sharing good practice within the class learners will push their abilities to the limit and produce a body of work that shows a journey of development resulting in a skilful and creative final outcome. Each learner will also produce a 3000 word essay, which is split into two parts, based on the work and artists they have researched. 2: Externally Set Exam This is an externally set exam project in which the student will choose a title and use the skills, creativity and knowledge developed throughout component to create an innovative piece of work showing creativity and the ability to understand and use photographic equipment and language. This is a course work based project, yet there is a period of 15 hours silent working in exam conditions to show the knowledge gained and to be able to produce a final outcome.

How you will Learn The course is based on practical working methods including the use of sketchbooks, worksheets and journals. Sessions are project based and art work is produced initially in an experimental way, showing research into a related topic, development work through drawings and designs, samples in relevant area, then a final outcome. You will use a selection media to explore tone, form, colour and texture.
