Course Summary:
This course enables learners to use French for the purpose of communication and fosters their ability to collect, analyse and exchange information, ideas and attitudes through the medium of the French language.
This qualification is linear. It means that learners will sit all their exams at the end of the course.
Entry requirements
You need five GCSEs including Maths and English. English Language will need to be a grade B and you must have a grade A or B in French at GCSE to undertake this course. An interest in French-speaking countries and their culture is essential.

How will I be assessed?
The AS Level exams in French include questions that allow learners to demonstrate their ability to:
draw together their knowledge, skills and understanding from across the full course of study
provide extended responses.
The exam board is AQA.
Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Writing (Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes; total raw mark: 90, 45% of AS)
Paper 2: Writing (Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes; total raw mark: 50, 25% of AS)
Paper 3: Speaking (Duration: 12–14 minutes plus 15 minutes supervised preparation time; total raw mark: 60, 30% of AS)

What can I do after this course?
You may need languages for all sorts of career destinations. Doctors, psychologists and physiotherapists need language skills to communicate effectively with patients whether they work in the UK or overseas. Business people, bankers and entrepreneurs all need language skills to make deals and sell products on the global market. Politicians, historians, geographers and holiday reps all need language skills to get to know the people and area that they are passionate about. Plus careers in teaching, translating/interpreting, journalism, importing/exporting and catering will all require advanced level language skills.
A foreign language A-Level will complement and enhance your other studies too.
