Course programme

A level music involves performance, composition, music history and theory. The focus is on classical music, although there is some scope for studying, writing and performing in other genres. At King Edward VI Stourbridge, we follow the Edexcel AS and A2 specifications.

Alongside practical work in performance and composition, students learn analytical skills and music history. The A2 course also includes a substantial pastiche composition element, writing chorale harmonisations in the style of Bach. The AS course can be taken separately, but most students continue on to A2.
