The whole course is assessment objectives based and combines a number of learning outcome expectations. The assessment objective weightings for the A level award are as follows:

AO1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures. 31%-33%

AO2: Apply knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures in both a theoretical and practical context and when handling qualitative and quantitative data. 41% - 43%

AO3: Analyse, interpret and evaluate scientific information, ideas and evidence, including in relation to issues, to make judgements and reach conclusions and develop and refine practical design and procedures. 25% - 27%.

The A level is assessed at the end of the course in June of the final year. There are three exams,
Exam 1: 1 hour 45 minutes
Exam 2: 1 hour 45 minutes
Exam 3: 2 hours 30 minutes In addition, 12-16 Core Practicals need to be taken for the Science Practical Endorsement.
