Brief Description of the Course

The ANA AWARD course is designed for those students currently working in a veterinary practice who wish to expand their knowledge and practical skills and achieve a recognised and valued qualification. It is aimed primarily at veterinary receptionists and those wishing to become an animal nursing assistant and wish to expand their veterinary nursing knowledge in order to provide improved assistance to clients and other veterinary staff.

The course will be delivered by workbooks that can be accessed online. There are 4 units in total to pass the qualification and learners are expected to cover all the learning outcomes by completing assessments. The assessments are presented in various methods – assignments, multiple choice questions, short answer questions, case studies, practical tasks and witness statements.

Students will need to structure their own study time and practical assessment within the veterinary practice. A qualified member of the team, either a RVN or MRCVS must also be willing to support the student and sign off practical work.

Entry Criteria

Students will be working in veterinary practice for a suitable amount of time to gain experience. The qualification is managed by Myerscough College and awarded by the Awarding Body Consortium. (ABC)

Student will automatically register with ABC through their enrolment with Myerscough College.

Progression

Students who successfully complete the course of study may wish to remain in employment at a veterinary practice and progress onto the Animal Nursing Assistant level 2 Certificate, if under 18 years of age at commencement of the Level 2 Certificate, applicants must hold a GCSE in English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.
