The course comprises of 5 modules and involves both theoretical and practical training applications to enable the delegates to provide training in the safe use of abrasive wheels. Delegates will also have post tutorial support by accessing our freephone help line that gives advice with abrasive wheel training needs and projects as well as advice on audio visual presentations.
Suitable for: This course is designed for those that wish to train others in the safe and efficient use of abrasives used on bench or pedestal machines and on portable cutting or grinding machines.

Course content. Module 1. Legal requirements.

  • Introduction to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 1998). Introduction to safety recommendations for the use of abrasive products by the Federation of european Producers of Abrasives (FEPA).
  • Legal requirement for training.
  • Recording the training.
  • Risk assessment.
  • Hazards in the use of abrasive wheels.
  • Personal protective equipment.
  • Video presentation. Question and answers.

    Module 2. Definition and analysis of abrasive wheels.
  • Definition of a grinding wheel.
  • How it works.
  • Abrasive grain types and sizes.
  • Bond types and sizes.
  • Abrasive wheel marking system.
  • Demonstartion and then participation by delegates in typical specifications and the marking system. Problem solving. Typical problems examined.
  • Questions and answers.
  • Written examination.

    Module 3. Inspection, examination and storage of abrasive wheels.
  • Receipt of abrasive wheels.
  • Storage guidelines.
  • Correct handling of abrasive wheels.
