To provide adequate training for the purposes of Health and Safety for operators involved in the safe use, handling and storage of abrasive wheels within their workplace, the course includes 'hands-on' practical exercises throughout fully supervised by the instructor / tutor. Suitable for: Safety in the use of Abrasive Wheels is legally covered in the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, which requires persons who use abrasive wheels to be restricted to properly trained people only, i.e. those people who mount and use abrasive wheels as part of their job should attend the training course.

Aim
The aim of the course is to provide adequate training for the purposes of Health and Safety for operators involved in the safe use, handling and storage of abrasive wheels within their workplace, the course includes “hands-on” practical exercises throughout fully supervised by the instructor / tutor.

Course Content / Aims and Objectives – Theory andPractical Skill Instruction
- Trainees will have an understanding of course aims and objectives.
- Have a clear understanding of their responsibilities under Health and Safety Law and other relevant legislation i.e. Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
- Have a clear understanding of the safety rules applicable to safe use of abrasive wheels, bench mounted and portable tools.
- Abrasive wheels and hazards arising from their use.
- Types of abrasive wheels, cutting discs and storage etc.
- Abrasive wheel operating speeds, spindle speeds etc.
- The functions of all components used with abrasive wheels, including flange washers, bushes, nuts and blotters.
- Abrasive wheel guidance notes.
- Operator’s duties and responsibilities.
- Pre-use checks and inspections of grinding wheels, discs and machines.
- Guards etc.
- Correct use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Theory and Practical assessments.
Instructors
Courses are carried out by our fully trained and accredited instructors and the training will be of a high quality standard throughout.
Location of Training
Training can be delivered on-site and off-site depending on customer requirements; training delivered off-site will be more advantageous to the trainees as the training can be specific to their workplace activities.
Equipment
Must be in sound working order, efficient state and of good repair when being used for training off-site and to be made available when required for the practical aspects of the training, ideally in an area away from the normal day to day work activities.
Achievement Measurement
The training is carried out in accordance with ITSSAR Accredited Standards and includes both theory and practical assessments leading to each trainee being issued a certificate of attendance as endorsed by the Health & Safety Executive.
