The absolute beginners courses are designed to be modular and affordable. The prices are set at £ 200 plus VAT per day, thus, for example a 3 day module will cost £ 600 pounds plus VAT.Classes are limited to a maximum of 8 students. This is to provide the time to help students working on class labs, or to give everyone an opportunity to contribute in class questions and discussions.It must not be assumed that "Absolute Beginners" courses are simplistic and trivially easy. All the courses are challenging professional level courses. However, the challenging aspect is tempered with "gentleness" and "helpfulness". You may have already come across books with the general title "XXXX for Dummies". Although the title may be "off putting" for some, nevertheless, many of these books are of an extremely high standard.
Description
"Absolute Beginners" was set up as a subdivision of FTT to cater for those who wish to learn computer programming and application development, computer systems and network configuration and administration, web and e-commerce application development, use of computer technology for developing interactive works of art, but have little experience or any kind of formal training in their chosen areas. A common statment during introductions of a typical attendee coming to an introduction to some programming language class might be " I started trying to teach myself from [ some textbook ] ... " then a silent pause and then "but at [ some point .. e.g. arrays or data structures or references (depending on the programming language) ] I got lost ..". The point being that studying out of a book may be effective for some, but for most people it is a lonely and at times frustrating activity. Quality time spent receiving tips and guidance can save many hours of "futile struggle with a book".
