Abstract Geometric Painting and Architecture

Develop your appreciation of both architecture and abstract geometric painting. With reference to contemporary painters who have found inspiration in architecture, you will heighten your awareness and develop a new found appreciation of the London cityscape. You will start by undertaking quick observations of buildings to collect visual data in your sketchbook and start to find your own expressive responses.

From the minutiae to the magnificent, including surface, texture, symbolism, shadow and form, you will investigate and explore. Historical facts and trivia will further intrigue and rouse your curiosity. Back in the studio you will be guided by your tutor as you draw on the knowledge and experience you have gained to review, select and develop your observations into an idea for an abstract geometric composition. This course will be fast paced and fun with plenty of opportunity to discuss your responses and ideas with your tutor and group.

Course Outcomes
With an increased appreciation of the architecture in London you will be able to experience the city better. You will be able to take an idea from an initial concept through to a final composition and be more familiar with basic architectural terminology and painters who have used architecture as a starting point for their work.
