Is the course for me?
The Advanced Construction Award (ACA) in Shopfitting is designed to follow on from the Intermediate Construction Award (ICA) and provide further preparation for people to work in the Bench Joinery Industry. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the assessment is based on candidates producing products to a recognised industrial standard.

Co-ordinate and manufacture shopfitting units
How will I learn?
You will learn in a variety of ways:
Group and individual study
Practical assessments
Written Assignments
Oral questioning at the end of each practical assessment
The use of on-line facilities
Considerable home study is required
The course consists of a challenging series of College set practical assessments as well as CITB/C&G written assignments, which consolidate the theory gained during group and individual study with the communication skills necessary to implement good working practices in the bench joinery industry.
In addition, the course prepares you for the CITB/C&G written examinations (sat towards the end of your course).
What will I need for the course?
Steel toe boots or shoes (when in the workshops), all other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be supplied by the College.
Black or Blue pen for all written work
2H or 3H pencil for all drawing and practical assessments, an eraser and pencil sharpener.
All other drawing and marking equipment will be supplied as and when required.
All materials, hand tools and Portable Power Tools will be supplied by the College.
What options are open to me if I successfully complete the course?
This is a nationally recognised qualification that prepares you for work in the bench joinery Industry.
Once you have gained employment in this industry discipline, you can train for an NVQ Level 2/3 in shopfitting bench work.
What qualifications or experience do I need to get on the course?
Intermediate Construction Award (ICA) in shopfitting (site and bench work) or NVQ Level 2 in shopfitting bench work.
Total commitment to work hard and meet the required standards in all areas of the course.
Length and start date of the course:
The duration is ten weeks of two week blocks over the course of one year.
