Course programme

Course Content

The course is made up of core units design pathway units. The programme starts off with an introduction to drawing and continues with projects in a variety of art and craft based areas. You will have the opportunity to undertake a period of study which focuses on the practice and theory of art and design; we aim to encourage independence and to take responsibility for your own learning so that you can confidently progress onto higher education.

The course lasts for one year and you are expected to attend three timetabled days a week on average, with the times planned to fit around family life. You will be given a personal workspace and assigned a personal tutor who will provide guidance and support throughout your studies.

One of our past students has progressed to an M.A course in Fine Art at the Royal College in London, and many others have also progressed to postgraduate study.

Method of Study

There are opportunities while on the course to join with other groups for more specialised inductions into a workshop or subject area such as Photoshop or Illustration. You can use this course as an alternative to an AS/A2 programme, as it enables you to explore, extend and update the necessary skills and knowledge for higher level studies in art and design.
