The Diploma is a one year full-time programme which is recognised by universities as an alternative to A levels for entry to many degree courses.
The Diploma is divided into units grouped into subject areas for each of which you can gain credits. Interviews are held after January up to the start of the course which is usually in September.

Course programme

All units are class based and learning is facilitated by formal lectures, practical group work and ICT interaction. The subjects are relevant for those wishing to undertake degrees in Social work or Social Science degrees such as Sociology or Psychology. Subjects offered on this Diploma can include: Psychology Sociology Social Policy English Literature Education Studies Politics Media studies These are complimented with timetabled Study Skills and Tutorial support. More details on combinations and unit content can be discussed at the interview stage. You must be 19 years of age by 1st September in the year the course starts. It is essential that you will have attained GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths and Science (if specifically required for your choice) prior to entry on the Access Diploma as these subjects are often required for degree level courses. If necessary, you may be able to study one GCSE or a Level 2 qualification alongside your diploma. Some universities will accept an alternatives to GCSE (you must check this with your choices). Professional qualifications will be also considered. Those who do not have Level 2 qualifications will be directed to Level 2 Access Foundation or suitable alternatives as preparation for progression to Access Level 3 or other Level 3 courses. The Diploma is deigned for access to many HE courses both locally and nationally. Fortunately we have some of the best Universities here in Leeds. All the local Universities welcome our access students. Leeds Trinity University College for example has a strong tradition of offering our students places for Psychology.
