About this course
Students are normally expected to have at least 4 GCSEs (or their equivalent) at Grades A - C, including GCSE passes in Maths, English and Science. The minimum age for entry onto the course is 19. Students with relevant work experience and vocational qualifications will be considered via a diagnostic assessment.

Who is the programme for? The programme is primarily aimed at adults who are in employment, but who would like to progress to Higher Education and a career in nursing or midwifery.
What will I study? Compulsory units cover elements of Psychology, Human Physiology and Study Skills. As a distance learning programme, this Pathway makes use of specially designed learning packages, which students can work on at home, with regular feedback and support from experienced lecturing staff.
Entry to the Programme?
How is it assessed? Students accumulate the required credits (60 at Level 3 in all) by means of assessed coursework, including examinations.
Future prospects? Students successfully completing the course are accredited by the OCNNWR and QAA Approved, achieving a nationally recognised qualification for entry to Higher Education. In addition, St Helens College enjoys a compact arrangement with Liverpool John Moores University which allows for direct progression onto JMU in Nursing programmes.
When will the programme start? The programme will start in September.
How long will it take? Attendance is one evening a week (or by mutual arrangement) for one year and by distance learning. There will be additional tutorial support as agreed with relevant tutors.
What about the Money? Please note that fee remission applies to anyone on a means tested benefit, job seekers allowance, a programme designated as Skills for Life (SfL) or where someone is studying their first full Level 2 or first full Level 3 (aged 19 25). If you are under 19 on the 31 August 2009 you would not normally pay tuition or registration fees. If a programme is Full Cost then no fee remission is applicable.
